Vintage Souvenir Applique/Patch/Label/Ribbon. New, Unused. CALAIS France.
Calais Coat of Arms with crown, fleur de lys, and crosses.
Woven ribbon type of
appliqué
. This is rayon or silk, I can't tell, and woven with what I believe is silk thread.
I believe this is quite old, maybe 1930-40's. ( Don't know for sure).
I bought a box of 15 of these vintage labels at an antique market in Europe. I believe are the front side of the souvenir patches from cities that you can buy, before they are sewn onto backing. I've never seen any like this before- rare find!
About 3" tall,  2" wide. Thin, like a silk ribbon.
Beautiful colors and fine details. Has a lovely silk sheen to the design with touches of gold thread.
Fabulous appliqué for a jacket, sweater, duffel, backpack - so many ideas!
